The Caretaker
What use are you to us
When you make yourself sick
Wallowing in self pity
Won’t listen to our advice?
Because we’ve spent our money,
You have no excuse
You owe us an explanation
Nothing’s free
You are not living up to our expectations
We have given you what we deemed necessary
You have been judged to be in arrears
Now you need to return to
Your previous role!
I'm not sure what the poem is about--very interesting but disturbing! (/) Cool.
ReplyDeleteThe art piece is FABULOUS!
I like your new icon photo.
ReplyDeleteVery powerful visual and verbal imagery!
ReplyDeleteThe Caretaker has come to collect a bad debt.
ReplyDelete'I failed to see all the strings hanging down like mafioso spaghetti.'
'You've left us no choice but to take the care away. It's time to pay the vig.'
I love your arresting images and your powerful colors.
ReplyDeleteYou know, now that I look at it again, I think the title to the poem is misleading. The caretaker is not the one collecting the debt, but the one who owes. The collectors are the ones that want the caretaker to go back to taking care of things. I thought it was fitting for "contained", because it's about the roles we find ourselves confined to. I can see why you had a hard time figuring out what the poem was about, Mary.
ReplyDeleteThank you Paul, for helping me to see this.
